Overview

The Associate Director of Nursing is responsible for oversight of the daily operations of the nursing department at the Shoreham ICF to ensure that each person supported receives the necessary care and services to attain or maintain the highest possible well-being in accordance with our mission statement. Fosters high standards of care in accordance with OPWDD and DOH regulations.

Responsibilities

  1. Provides direct supervision to Assistant Directors of Nursing. Maintains ongoing supervisory interaction with each Nursing employee and conducts yearly evaluations. Ensures the implementation of proper principles of primary nursing and clinical services, in accordance with OPWDD and DOH regulation, ensuring the effectiveness of each team.
  2. Ensures that nursing staffing minimums are met at the Shoreham ICF at all times.
  3. Develops policies and procedures to ensure continuity of care, fiscal responsibility, and maintenance of highest standards of care
  4. Implements ongoing plans for nursing retention in conjunction with VP of Health Services so as to ensure high job satisfaction and low turnover rates in each department.
  5. Works with Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs to identify and implement immediate and long-term plans of correction for systemic medical concerns/problems. Functions as member of agency Human Rights, Incident Review and Medical Review Committees
  6. Maintain ongoing interaction with the talent acquisition team so as to ensure recruitment, hiring of nursing staff so as to ensure proper ratios in each program.
  7. Conducts nursing administrative meetings & attends leadership and management meetings to communicate information and seek recommendations to improve medical care to individuals in each program
  8. Confers with Medical Director and other medical providers (pharmacies, psychologists, lab supply vendors, and physicians) by telephone and scheduled meetings to ensure the delivery of quality and cost effective health care services.
  9. Oversight of system in which medical records/ clinical progress notes are organized and updated
  10. Confers with individuals who receive supports and services and their family members/correspondents by telephone and scheduled treatment team meetings to serve as an insightful resource and to discuss their specific questions related to their medical concerns
  11. Evaluates the quality of the medical services provided to the individuals in each program by collaborating with other Health Service Agencies and collaboration with hospitals
  12.  Ensure 24/7-day week on-call system including review of RN responses and establishment of on-call protocols as needed
  13. Performs other related duties as instructed by supervisor

  16. This position requires regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with people receiving services and, therefore, is subject to successful completion of fingerprint/criminal background check.
  17. Ensure that work-related safety procedures are in place and are being adhered to by staff. Observance of an unsafe act or a potentially hazardous work environment must be immediately reported to supervisor and/or safety committee.

Qualifications

College degree and NYS Registered Nurse License as well as 5 (+) years’ experience in nursing working with people with Intellectual and Developmentally disabilities (preferred). Two + years’ experience supervising clinical staff preferred. Valid and qualified NYS Driver's license required.
