Overview

Maintains the cleanliness and upkeep of a residence in the Helen Kaplan Program, by daily dusting, sweeping, scrubbing bathrooms, washing windows, vacuuming, etc. to ensure suitable living quarters for the people we serve. 

 

Responsibilities

Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Practices and promotes Citizen’s mission statement in every interaction.Through family and community engagement, Citizens supports people to live the life they choose.
  • Ensures cleanliness and sanitization throughout the residence by dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping throughout to provide a clean and sanitized healthy living condition for people we serve.
  • Cleans resident bedrooms by dusting blinds, emptying garbage, and tidying bed to ensure residents' rooms neat and tidy.
  • Keep rugs and floors clean by vacuuming and using appropriate attachments to ensure a clean environment for residents.
  • Keeps offices (including the nurse’s office, overnight station, and examination room) clean by emptying garbage, dusting, and wiping down equipment to provide a clean and healthy environment for the residents and staff.
  • Cleans bathrooms in hallway by washing sinks and toilets, emptying garbage, sweeping, and mopping to keep the bathrooms sanitary and clean for residents.
  • Ensures sanitary supplies (i.e., gloves, cups, paper towels) are available by monitoring the inventory of supplies and refilling when necessary to ensure that the level of supplies are maintained.
  • Cleans and maintains dining room furniture by polishing tables and chairs to insure a clean, sanitized eating area for residents.
  • Cleans laundry room by sweeping, emptying garbage, wiping cabinets, cleaning machines, and wiping dryers to ensure laundry room is clean and sanitary.
  • Cleans recreation room by washing sink, mopping floor, and storing items in proper place to provide a clean and organized recreation room for residents' activities.
  • Trains new housekeepers, when necessary, by demonstrating cleaning equipment and techniques and reviewing procedures to ensure new housekeepers are proficient in their new positions.
  • Disposes of OSHA bio-hazardous waste by storing it in outside receptacle and replacing new bags in bins to properly dispose of bio-hazardous waste and comply with OSHA regulations.
  • Performs additional duties as requested by supervisor.
  • This position requires regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with people receiving services and, therefore, is subject to successful completion of  fingerprint/criminal background check.
  • Ensure that work-related safety procedures are in place and are being adhered to by staff.  Observance of an unsafe act or a potentially hazardous work environment must be immediately reported to supervisor and/or safety committee.
  • Reports to Justice Center as a mandated reporter if there is reasonable cause to suspect abuse or neglect.
  • Adheres to Federal and New York State regulations, agency policy and procedures, the employee handbook and agency and program training requirements.
  • Successfully completes and maintains annual training and other training that is necessary for your position.
  • Arrives to work by the start of the scheduled shift, adheres to agency policy and procedures regarding call offs and overtime to ensure quality support is provided to people each day.

 

 

Qualifications

Prior housekeeping experience, preferably in a commercial setting
